One thing that isn't always disclosed is what an actor does when they are not booking gigs or auditioning. I took my mom's advice that honestly took years to digest, where we shouldn't ever limit ourselves because we are capable of doing many different things in our lives. That's what makes us individuals. The concept of being "multi-talented" went from negating my passion for solely acting to allowing that passion to seep into even more artistic avenues.
I found that I had a joy for writing and performing spoken word poetry, stemming back from high school creative writing class. It made me a better actor and storyteller. Poetry slams kept me inspired and focused on improving as an actor and poet performer, and allowed for comfort even in competitive environments. Writing a poem a day about the things that plagued or ached my mind and heart when I didn't have a performing gig to distract me led to compiling them into one narrative. I took advantage of the time to read plays and find roles that inspired me. Thus, The Unicorn That Discovered Self Love and other producing endeavors (Gruesome Playground Injuries, 2016) were born.
Always working.
